Duy (31),

Consultant for Public Services

"After I finished my degree in economics, mayato enabled me to get off to a fantastic start in a demanding and varied job. As a SAS consultant since 2008, I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the team and the informal exchange of experience between experts and juniors. And I always look forward to seeing familiar faces and making new contacts at the team meetings."

What is mayato’s selection process like?

After your application documents have convinced us, we’ll arrange two telephone calls (one after the other) to see how you would fit into the team and to test your technical and business abilities. After the telephone call, a personal face-to-face meeting usually takes place. In each meeting or call, you’ll come into contact with different mayato employees. This approach enables us all – including you – to get to know as much about each other as possible and gives everyone a sound basis on which to make a decision.

Is mayato currently hiring consultants?

Our current vacancies are advertised here.
top

Do you prefer a classic application portfolio on paper or an e-mail application?

We only accept applications by e-mail.
top

What do you expect in terms of grades and practical experience?

We expect a lot of our future employees, because we plan for you to become part of the mayato team, not just an employee for the next few projects. That’s why we expect you to have an excellent university degree and we’ll test your abilities in personal phone calls and meetings.

As a graduate, you should be able to prove that you completed internships and had other involvements beyond university. Ideally, you’ll have experience abroad, for example, an internship or study for a semester.

We expect professionals to have relevant professional experience from previous employment.
top

Where would I actually work and how much travel is required?

Projects take place where our customers are located, which means that you could be working anywhere in Europe. If you aren’t working on a customer project or if the customer allows tele working, you work from home. We therefore don’t think you’ll need to move house to work for us. Sometimes we require local employees for customer projects over a number of years. Such employees are required to travel to a limited extent only.
top

Are there internal career levels?

In our opinion, the personal development of our employees should focus us the content-based furthering of personal abilities, and not on ascending formal hierarchies. We hold regular feedback meetings to talk with you about what direction your development at mayato should take and how we can achieve this together.
top

What does the ideal mayato candidate look like?

As a graduate, you have completed your studies at a university (or university of applied sciences) successfully and promptly. You have already gained an insight into the world of consulting in an internship or during part-time work as a student and discovered that that’s where your future lies. If you are willing to work in any part of Germany, we should get to know one another. Because we also work on projects abroad, you should also be able to work beyond Germany’s borders.

As a professional, you gained an above-average university degree and have relevant professional experience as a consultant. If you have decided on consulting as a long-term career, we should get to know one another. For specific requirements with regard to your qualifications, please refer to the relevant vacancy.

What languages will I definitely need to be able to speak?

Because our customers are distributed throughout Europe and due to the composition of the mayato team, we mainly communicate in German and English. That’s why you’ll need to be proficient in German and English for business purposes. The knowledge of other European languages is helpful but not essential.
top

Is experience with tools such as SAP NetWeaver BW, SAP BusinessObjects, or SAS absolutely necessary?

Recent graduates and people with different academic backgrounds do not require experience with these tools. If you join us as a professional, please refer to the specific requirements in the relevant vacancy.
top

What subjects does mayato prefer its applicants to have studied?

When selecting potential employees, we focus on graduates of computer science (with business studies), mathematics (with business studies), economics, life science, and engineering (with business studies). In addition, we welcome applications from people with different academic backgrounds, such as psychology, languages, and social sciences.

All applicants need to have highly developed analytical skills and an affinity with IT topics. A basic knowledge of business is very helpful for applicants who have studied a subject with no economic background.
t

As a professional, do I need experience of a particular industry?

Because mayato provides consulting services across all sectors, industry experience is not imperative. In individual cases, the knowledge of certain industries could be an advantage.

Getting started at mayato

What can I expect immediately after starting work at mayato?

As a recent graduate, you will receive initial training – usually with a technical focus – before getting started on your first project right away. There, you’ll join an experienced consultant and acquire the skills you’ll need to work successfully in a consultancy. The complexity and the scope of your tasks will increase during the course of the project work. To help you get up to speed in new topics, you’ll receive internal and external training and gain specialized technical or business knowledge. At the same time and in line with project requirements, it is possible and necessary for you to learn or improve your project management and leadership skills. We have many development opportunities and our individual career paths mean that it is always possible for you to change direction.

If you already have consulting experience when you join mayato, you’ll be given a content-based and organizational introduction to the company before getting started right away with your first project. Of course, you will be supported and accompanied by mayato colleagues and project managers who are already involved.
top

What responsibilities will I assume in the project team?

Each mayato project team is put together depending on the qualifications of our employees and the customer’s requirements. We ensure that the projects give our employees sufficient potential for personal growth. We know that being active in different projects stimulates and promotes personal development.
top

Do new employees attend training courses?

We offer you many different training activities. These take place in parallel with your project work, so that you have the chance to put what you have learned into practice right away. In addition to the training activities defined for everyone, each employee has training concepts designed to cater to their needs.
top

What might a career at mayato look like?

You are responsible for your own career, but we provide advice in all important matters. In the field of consulting, mayato offers you individual career paths. Careers are formed actively at mayato. For more detailed information, please refer to our career paths.

Will I have a personal contact person?

Yes, every consultant is assigned to a superior, who is available as a direct contact person to answer all their questions. If you wish, you can also select an experienced colleague as a coach or mentor, for example, at one of the team meetings.

Each superior or coach/mentor supports their employees in day-to-day work activities and in their professional progress. Personal feedback meetings take place at least once a month, in which the focus is on the employee’s individual goals. Depending on each employee’s experience, mayato also supports them through external coaching.

Working at mayato

What working hours will I have at mayato?

Consultants’ working hours depend on the projects in which they are involved at a particular time. Weekends are free, with a few project-related exceptions. We aim to have a four-day week for project work (Monday through Thursday), so that Friday can be used for training, education, and other topics. Unlike most other consulting companies, you will rarely be expected to work more than 45 hours a week. Traveling time to and from customers does not count as working time. However, mayato has a bonus system to reward those who have made a significant contribution.
top

What does a project look like at mayato?

Our projects are just as individual as our customers. For this reason, the project topics within our core competencies are very different. You will not usually be expected to work on more than one customer project at a time.
top

How is a project team at mayato structured?

Each project team is structured individually in accordance with project requirements. Usually, a project comprises a project manager and a team. The project managers work actively in the project. With larger project teams, it may be the case that the project manager concentrates only on managing the project. Furthermore, larger projects may be divided into smaller subprojects with their own subproject managers.
top

How long do projects last on average?

There isn’t a typical mayato project. Usually, our projects take between a few weeks and a year. The average is around eight months.
top

How and when can I specialize beyond project work?

As a growth-oriented company, we offer you opportunities to become involved with mayato’s activities outside project work at an early stage. We encourage you to take the initiative, for example, to evaluate new technologies, to develop your own projects, or to support our business processes, such as recruiting. Each mayato employee takes on different roles soon after joining us and thus has the opportunity to gather experience in different areas and to specialize.
top

How much will I travel?

We can’t give you a clear response here. The amount you will be required to travel depends on where you live and the projects on which you will be working. Our consultants are at the customer between 100 and 200 days a year. That’s why willingness to travel is an absolute prerequisite for working at mayato.
top

How international are mayato’s consulting activities?

Currently, mayato’s consulting activities are concentrated on Germany and other European countries. We endeavor to take into account personal preferences when it comes to possible projects beyond German borders.
